This aquatint shows the mill pond in historic Meadowvale, Mississauga. It was here where 29 families, mostly Irish, emigrated from New York in 1819 to find new homes in Canada. Meadowvale's early years were driven by the milling industry, with the mills drawing their power from the Credit River. Gooderham and Worts owned and operated multiple businesses in the area. The community began to be frequented by many artists, including Group of Seven members A.Y. Jackson and A.J. Casson. By the 1860s, Meadowvale ha a general store, a post office, a shoemaker, two blacksmiths, a carriage and harness maker, carpenter, a schoolhouse, a cheese factory, and a large grist mill. In 1980, Meadowvale was made the first Heritage Conservation District.
