Collection: Nicholas Hornyansky

Nicholas Hornyansky (1896-1965) RCA, OSA, CPE

Nicholas Hornyansky was born in Budapest. Later in his youth, he studied at the city's Academy of Fine Arts and elsewhere in Europe and became an accomplished portrait painter, exhibiting in Antwerp and Brussels. Hornyansky then branched into etching and landscape painting and traveled throughout England and France before immigrating to Canada in 1929. Hornyansky exhibited regularly with the Royal Canadian Academy and the Ontario Society of Artists. Hornyansky’s work has been exhibited widely across the United States and internationally and he is recognized today for having made major contributions to the advancement of printmaking in Canada.
