Collection: Marcel Barbeau

Marcel Barbeau (1925-2016)

Marcel Barbeau was a Montreal-born Canadian artist. He studied with Paul-Emile Borduas and later shared a studio with classmate Jean-Paul Riopelle. The three of them later formed the artist group known as the Automatistes, which was inspired by the surrealist automatism movement that sought to suppress conscious control over the artistic process. Barbeau's work is held within the collections of the National Gallery of Canada, the Art Gallery of Ontario, and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, among other institutions.
