John William Beatty (1869-1941) RCA, OSA

Born in Toronto, John William Beatty is best known for his landscapes. Although good friends with members of the Group of Seven, Beatty chose not to join the. While he shared the same interest in depicting the Canadian wilderness as the Group, his style remained more realist. Beatty spent many years teaching near Port Hope, Ontario, later joining the teaching staff of the Ontario College of Art (Toronto) from 1912 to his death in 1941.
