Jacques Hurtubise (1939-2014)

Jacques Hurtubise was a Canadian painter known for his abstract works. He was born in Montreal and studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Montreal under Albert Dumouchel, Jacques de Tonnancour, and Jean Simard; at the age of 21, he had had his first solo exhibition in Montreal. In 1961 Hurtubise received a Max Beckman scholarship to study in New York City, where he spent most of the decade. He later returned to Montreal, traveled, and retired to Nova Scotia. His work is held within the collections of the the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Canada Council in Ottawa, and elsewhere.
