Isobelle Chestnut Reid (1903-1987)
Isobelle Chestnut Reid as born in Fredericton. She attended the Ontario College of Art (now OCAD), where she studied under such notables including Arthur Lismer, J.E.H. MacDonald, J.W. Beatty, and other prominent artists. Reid won a scholarship at OCAD and later continued her studies at the Parsons School of Fine and Applied Arts in New York. Reid later traveled in Mexico, where she worked with noted artists Leonard and Reva Brooks. Reid moved back to Toronto in later years, where she married. Reid exhibited with the Ontario Society of Artists, the Royal Canadian Academy, and the Picture Loan Society, and was a member of Hayden Street Studio Group of Painters, which was formed by Barker Fairley in 1938 in Toronto. She is represented within the collection of the Art Gallery of Ontario.
