Henrietta Britton (1873-1963)

Henrietta Britton (nee Hancock), a Canadian artist born in London, England, began her artistic journey in Toronto at the Ontario School of Art and Design. After teaching and studying abroad, she joined the Royal Canadian Academy of Art in 1905. As Director of Art at Brandon College from 1906 to 1911, she emphasized classical works. In 1914, Henrietta married fellow artist Harry Britton and they lived in Toronto before moving to Europe. Returning to Canada in 1925, she continued her career, exhibiting widely and creating notable murals. Known for her mastery of composition, her artworks are held in the National Gallery of Canada and private collections.
