Collection: George Patrick Forgie
1932-2024
George Forgie was an artist who taught at Victoria Park Collegiate Institute in Toronto. Forgie was born in Toronto to Scottish immigrants. Forgie began his career as a landscape painter in the manner of the Group of Seven, later moving on to figural works and surrealism, which Forgie called his Romantic Period. Forgie later took a ten year hiatus from painting, during which time he wrote two books. Forgie also worked as a stoneware sculptor, a photographer, oil, watercolour, and pen-and-ink. In an interview, when asked if he ever re-visited past periods in his work, Forgie replied, “Each period had to happen in order to be able to do the following.” A retrospective of Forgie’s 40 year painting career was held at the Cultural Expressions Art Gallery in Ajax in 2009.
