Collection: Gary Slipper

Gary Slipper (1934-2019)

Gary Peter Slipper was born in Calgary, Alberta. Slipper taught himself to paint at the age of 9 and started night classes when he was 11. A year later, Slipper enrolled at the Allied Arts Centre in Banff. Slipper also studied at the Banff School of Fine Arts, the Vancouver School of Art, the American Academy of Art (Chicago), eventually moving to Madrid to continue his post-graduate work there. From 1960-65, Slipper lived in Hamilton, Ontario before moving to Toronto, where he quickly became a recognized name. Slipper enjoyed a steady influx of sales and solo shows that allowed him to live off his art. His work is held within the collections of the National Gallery of Canada, Vancouver Art Gallery, St. George Williams University (Concordia), and elsewhere.
