Collection: Frederick Hagan

Frederick Hagan (1918-2003) RCA, OSA, CPE

Toronto-born Frederick Hagan was a painter, printmaker, and influential instructor and department head at the Ontario College of Art (OCAD). Hagan is perhaps best known for his social realism, and his subject matter often included the Canadian working class, likely influenced by personal experience; at 13 years old, Hagan was forced to leave school and work at a paper factory following his father’s death. Hagan’s work is in the collections of the Art Gallery of Ontario, the National Gallery of Canada, the Art Gallery of Hamilton, the Glenbow Museum, among others.
