Emile Albert Gruppé (1896-1978)

Emile Albert Gruppé was born in Rochester, New York. Gruppé spent the early years of his life in the Netherlands as his father was a member of the Hague School of Art and was also a dealer of Dutch paintings in the United States. Gruppé studied at the National Academy in New York City as well as at the Academie de la Grande Chamiere in Paris and became known for his impressionistic landscapes and his coastal and marine paintings of Massachusetts. Gruppé died in Gloucester, Massachusetts in 1978.
