More commonly known as E.B. Cox, he was an international renown sculptor based in Toronto, Ontario. Cox was born in Alberta and attended the University of Toronto between 1934 and 1938, where he met Barker Fairley. Fairley introduced Cox to many artists, including members of the Group of Seven. Cox served as an interpreter during World War II, following which he took up a brief teaching career at Upper Canada College. In the 1950s, Cox began sculpting full-time. He pioneered the use of the compressed-air chisel and other power tools in creating sculpture, a technique that enabled him to single-handedly create large-scale installations
