Charles Walter Simpson

Charles Walter Simpson (1878-1942) RCA

Born in Montreal in 1878, Charles Walter Simpson was among Canada’s first group of Official War Artists along with Frederick Varley, J.W. Beatty, and Maurice Cullen. Simpson also worked as an illustrator and was often commissioned by various firms and companies across Canada, including the Canadian Pacific Railway. Simpson was a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts, and his work is held at the National Gallery of Canada.
